Confusions - Sapatos Cegos
Dance performance in front of the Kunstkaten
For this year's three-week production residency, the MECKLENBURG-VORPOMMERN TANZT AN team has selected the Colombian choreographer Lina Gómez, who works in Berlin, from the pool of former resident artists at Schloss Bröllin. Together with six dancers, a musician and a costume designer, she is developing two formats at Schloss Bröllin: a shorter performance (approx. 10 minutes) that appears in public spaces just as surprisingly as it disappears again or meanders as a kind of procession along beach promenades, pedestrian zones and through shopping arcades. With her longer performances (approx. 30 minutes), she turns (un)ordinary places into stages that invite passers-by to take a closer look and linger.
At the center of the actions and performances are three performers in their unusual and elaborate costumes, who seem to move "headless" through the places together with three other dancers and irritate the usual routines of everyday life of passers-by. Lina Gómez deliberately dispenses with clear narrative structures with a beginning and end, instead creating open spaces for reflection on uncertainties and disorientation when shoes seem to walk through the world without orientation. The formats are adapted to the respective local conditions and thus open up new perspectives on familiar everyday places.
Lina Gómez's works are characterized by the connection between human and non-human bodies, the visible and the invisible. She explores the possibilities of difference and the transformative forces at work between bodies. The combination of different movement traditions and her examination of the relationship between sound and body characterize her signature.
With this production, Lina Gómez follows on from a first version of SAPATOS CEGOS, which she co-founded with Joaquim Lino, Andreia Guilhermina and the Cia. Aberta de Dança in São Paulo and performed at the Urban Visions IV International Festival of Dance in Urban Landscapes in the patio of the Colegio in São Paulo (May 2009). Critics described it as one of the best pieces in the program due to its simplicity and impact. This was followed in August 2011 by a performance at the "Iinclude Cup" at the SESC Itaquera and in the "Testimonial Body" program. In 2013, the performance was shown as part of the project "Dance Ocupation" and "Performapa Project" at Sesc Ipitanga, in 2014 in China and in 2015 at the event LAND(SCHAFFT)KUNST V - Neuwerder in Germany.
