B14 Gerhard Marcks Artist House

Büdnerei B14 is the former home of the famous German sculptor, draftsman and graphic artist Gerhard Marcks.

The more than 200-year-old building monument was extensively restored from 2017 to 2019 and opened as an artists' domicile. In this context, a close cooperation with the Burg Giebichenstein Kunsthochschule Halle is sought.

Since August 17, 2019, stands in the garden of the "B14 Gerhard Marcks Künstlerhaus" in the district of Niehagen a cast of the world-famous bronze sculpture "The Caller" by Gerhard Marcks. The work of art gained worldwide fame through its location in front of the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin, where another cast of the sculpture has stood since 1989. Here, the artwork was placed in memory of Ronald Reagan's visit in 1987, when the American president made his call to the world: "Mr. Gorbachev, open this gate. Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!" The cast of the sculpture now erected in Ahrenshoop was originally intended to find its way to America and be dedicated to the American people, who helped the Germans achieve freedom, unity and peace. The work of art did not make this journey. In a conversation with art collector and dealer Bernd Schultz, whose family foundation Schultz-von Schacky is the owner of this statue, Torsten Frühauf was able to bring the Baltic resort Ahrenshoop into play as an installation site for this sculpture. The location in the garden of the former artist's studio, where Gerhard Marcks once lived and worked in Ahrenshoop, was convincing, so that the work of art is now on permanent loan to Ahrenshoop.
